Sand Dunes in Colorado? Who knew?
Ok, so I knew Colorado had Sand Dunes but I only learned about them a year or so ago after coming across a picture on Instagram. I’ve always known about the ones in countries like Namibia, Morocco, Venezuela, and of course Dubai, but Sand Dunes right in our backyard? Yup! There are technically Sand Dunes in Arizona, California, Idaho, Kansas, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, however the ones in Colorado are the largest in North America and probably the best ones to experience!
Maiya, a student of meteorology and a fellow outdoor enthusiast, invited me to the Colorado Sand Dunes to shoot the first episode of her #JoinThe Adventure web-series, focused on seeing the wonders of the world through the lens of weather. I was her first featured guest explorer. (Score!) I still can’t believe that this is technically considered work for me.
While on the trip, It dawned on me that I majored in Biology in college for experiences like this–to be out in the world exploring and being able to recognize the biology of why nature is the way it is and then have Maiya explain how weather affects the way it is. Collaborative learning. It’s pretty cool knowing stuff and being able to apply it in real life. I could’ve been Dr. Miller, but I think being an Inspirational Explorer fits me much better.
All in all, the experience was everything and more. Not only the exploring part, but also being able to create visually stimulating content that inspires people. (By the way, if you’re not following me on Instagram you’re tripping; @cantstayput_)
But any who, the moral of the story is–put the Colorado Sand Dunes on your “places to experience” list. It’s absolutely beautiful! Scenic landscapes everywhere you turn. Just wait until you see the episode. I’ll keep you posted on its release.
Until next time,
Go. Do. Be. #cantstayput
