Back to the Bay
“My plan B is always another way to make plan A work.”
I’m back out in the bay on a work assignment and it made me reminisce about the many side gigs I’ve worked on my journey to build Can’t Stay Put.
A couple of months after I quit my job in 2013, I worked a gig that required me to dress up like a hippy; tie-die shirt, glasses, bell bottom jeans, ridiculous jewelry. I had to ride a bright orange low-rider bike around San Francisco handing out flyers and plastic watches. I was a part of a street team during a major conference. 10hr days for a week. I remember thinking what if someone sees me from my former life. I had gone from managing a staff of 25+ people and coordinating 30k events to harassing people on the street. At the time I needed funds to finance a project for Can’t Stay Put. I was so determined to get Can’t Stay Put off the ground that I was willing to do whatever it took to make shit pop, even if it required me having to swallow my pride to work gigs that I would have never imagined I would do.
Moral of the story: Never be too good to do what’s necessary to follow your dreams. It’s only temporary. Also, never settle for one source of income. // Go. Do. Be. #CantStayPut #1099Life
